Hair Photography Made EASY // Photography Tips and Tricks For Hair Stylists and Salons on Instagram

Thanks to social media, photography has become a skill hair stylists MUST master. In this video, we cover how to take better photos of salon client’s hair with only your phone.

As the salon industry becomes more digitally driven through social media, online reviews and booking, how you present your work is more important than ever. Your ability to take good hair photos and show your best work on places like Instagram and Yelp is essential for growing your clientele, and it works! Show the world how good your work is with amazing photos!

These are basic tips and tools we use for our work on Instagram every day. We tried to teach absolute basics and showcase helpful tools for beginner level hair photographers who are NOT working with a fancy DSLR camera, but still want a professional look.

I hope these tips help you in the salon and please comment below if you have any questions!

SOFT BOXES:
These soft boxes are so affordable and easy to setup. They give a gorgeous diffused light and are my favorite choice to shoot hair photos with especially when we lose the sunlight in the salon.

TRIPOD & iPHONE HOLDER:
This is not the best brand for a tripod, but it gets the job done! If you want to invest more money into this I recommend it but if you need something extremely affordable and easy to use this is a great option.

SNUG (app):
Organize your Instagram feed easily with Snug. Import your photos and click and hold them to move them around your example feed. You can also export your photo directly from snug to your instagram.

Available for Apple devices only, sorry Android users : https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/snug-for-instagram/id1025000402?mt=8

FACETUNE (app):
Edit your clients complexion and whiten backgrounds with this amazing app. Click the smooth tool and choose one tear drop for soft editing and two tear drops for more intensity. Zoom into your clients face to make edits close to the details to make it look as natural as possible. To whiten a background click the whiten tool and rub the area you want to make whiter. This tool will immediately clean your photo and make your pictures look amazing.

LIGHTROOM PRESETS:
I also purchased presets to make editing easier and faster. You can edit manually to achieve the same effect, but this just saves a ton of time and helps ensure consistency in the look of your photography.

I use the mobile preset double pack (Amalfi and Ibiza), and also the HF essential mobile preset pack. Don’t forget the coupon code on the site, BOGO.
