Dark Skin Photography Tips for Beginner Photographers | How to Photograph Dark Skin Tones
A lot of photographers are struggling with taking pictures of dark skin tones and often avoid working with people of color altogether.
I’m here to educate you because I can’t hear another story of my clients complaining that another photographer told them “it’s challenging to find a good light for you” or made them look ashy, orange, too dark, or too light. This is not professional, and I’m on a mission to make it right!

I moved to the US from Russia 8 years ago and within my first year started working with a variety of models with diverse backgrounds, and it turned out that I was one of the few photographers who could capture beautiful portraits no matter how light or dark their skin was.
Any skin tone can look beautiful in the pictures, from dewy rich dark tones to bronze browns and porcelain fair skin – you just need to learn how to control your camera and light!
